Two reasons for dog boots. One already mentioned, the salt on the streets causes irritation. The other, our Border Collie gets wet snow packed between her toes and when it gets too cold she lies down and starts licking them. She will hold up her paws so we can put them on. It only took about 10 minutes to get used to them the first time. Of course, she likes the extra attention.
