We have two big oak trees on our rural property. When we bought it, we found that squirrels were nesting in the house attic. We cleaned out the nest, and sealed the possible entrances with metal sheets and screens. The squirrels disappeared – haven’t seen one on the property for years. The trees still produce plenty of acorns. I don’t know where squirrels nest, but from this sample, it’s not in trees.
