A few years ago I noticed what I thought were two eagles circling skyward above the lake in front of my house. They were very close to each other and kept going higher and higher. Then, the smaller of the two, which was actually an osprey, dropped the fish it had in its talons. The eagle did a quick flip and snatched that fish out of the air instantly and then headed towards its nest. The osprey was no match for the more powerful eagle, and flew away.
Fun fact – in most bald eagle videos (on the internet, TV and such) you see, the bald eagle “call” is actually from a red-tailed hawk. It’s extremely common to play red-tailed hawk calls to represent bald eagles as well as a sound effect. We’ve grown up conditioned to believing that’s what real bald eagles sound like, but it’s completely different. And after you hear a real bald eagle call, it’s obvious why the deception happens. (Hint: it isn’t as majestic and more on the whiny side).

But, that’s what eagles do. They are opportunistic predators. They will steal from other birds, and they will eat carrion.

He’s honing his survival skills with the encroaching of population. He’ll be joining the raccoons eventually.
