    People cutting in supermarket lines are nonexistent, at least in the U.S. (the authors are Danish). It seems to be the one unwritten law of courtesy that everyone obeys religiously. In fact, very often those with a full cart will let someone with only two or three items go ahead of them. Then, when we exit the supermarket, we reenter the real world, where we mistrust and dislike one another.

    Often offered and most often declined as the person with few items usually says " No thank you, You were here first."
