I would have to wear a Hank Williams Sr. t-shirt to fit the category on the right. And I am a fan. Or Robert Johnson, or Glenn Miller, or Charlie Parker.
You can be a fan even if the band no longer exists. I once was at a college daytime concert in the 1970s, with The Beach Boys and The New Riders of the Purple Sage, long after the BBs popularity wave had passed. When the BBs launched into “Fun, Fun, Fun,” I noticed that most of the undergraduates, who must have been born around the time the BBs got together, were singing along. Good music is timeless, and (thanks to recordings) can pick up fans anytime.

Not me. I’m a fan of a few bands, that existed, before I was born.

None of these bands existed when I was born in 46. I may be old, but I saw all the good bands and the Band was one of them.

With the internet, bands can live forever.
