When I was a kid my brother and I were riding our bikes and I wiped out on a patch of gravel, and scraped a good deal of skin off both my arm and leg. It looked really gross, and I told my brother to go get Mom. Apparently he ran into the house and yelled that I was dying.
Having had this kind of thing happen to me a couple of times, I remember the sinking stomach and feeling that I needed it repeated to be sure I heard what I thought I heard.

When dad gets home, he’s going to wonder what those bruises on her legs came from.

Love how Spud’s holding mom like she’s his parent, not Wallace’s.
