I find it interesting that Spud knows that Gary is his imaginary friend – and yet Gary can still surprise him. Psychologically, that implies that Gary is a manifestation of a consciousness asynchronous to Spud’s normal consciousness – subconscious, like an ID, or a split personality, etc. That would take this down a dark path, which I don’t want … but it rolls around in my head.
When I was stationed in Bosnia, back in 96, I attended the Danish Constitution Day celebration on their base with the Nord Pole Brigade. It was a HUGE picnic and tons of fun.
But all the food was cooked by Gary. No hamburgers, no hotdogs, no potato salad. They did have 100 types of cod, herring and mackerel though. And all kinds of beer, which goes down good with anything. Even a North Sea diet fit for a Viking.

I make a great cream cheese and salmon spread with onion and chopped pecans… dill and capers optional. Good on sandwich bread or crackers and such.
And if a troll wrangler is needed, ya might call Lio.

The image from Spud’s imagination is giving him a cardiac, I imagine.

I think that these comics about Gary are Will’s way of talking about the seriousness of addiction.

So does Gary make the sandwiches or is there an imaginary culinary monster named Francois behind the scenes? A little back story Mr. Henry, please.

Hmmm. Smoked cod I think. I’m not sure cream cheese works for me with baked or poached.
