The library in Bangor Maine was a Carnegie Library. It was a real pleasure. I wasn’t happy that so many books were “in the stacks” and not available to the casual browser, but I found plenty to read. A few years ago when I looked it up online, I was pleased that Stephen King and his wife had funded a major addition to the library. Good on them, and on Carnegie!
Too bad this beautifully expressed thought will not be appreciated by Florida’s governor and his legislature in regards to their mandates for school libraries.
Sadly, our library branch is now some videos, a bank of computer terminals and an extremely limited number of books. The Childrens’ Section is still fairly stocked, but nearly all adult volumes are only at the main library quite a distance away.

“Reading is fun-dimental.” Reading opens great big spaces to roam around in without leaving your chair.

From a fortune cookie:”Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.” Beware of those who ban books!
