My take is even more different.
Dad gambled the college savings fund itself, not just the application fees, so there’s no way Cory could afford the Ivy League anymore. His pride in steering Cory to Oliver Otis U. is just a cover-up for his compulsive disorder.
Not that there’s that much truth in that. The Ivy League is better equipped than almost anyone to give enough financial aid to offset their high tuition rates.
