I got visited by a female hummingbird a few weeks ago. I suppose she was on her way to Central America already.
Speed is of the essence with hummingbirds. When I worked at a nursery/garden center we always had hummingbirds visiting the flowers.

The hummingbirds I saw in Pasadena had an iridescent patch on the throat that appeared red only when viewed from directly in front. I finally realized that it was so the hummingbirds didn’t collide at combine speeds of 80 mph.
