Son of the Baron? Presumably not the eldest son, unless that’s what he’s fleeing. If he isn’t the eldest, then he’s a “spare” son. The “spare” sons of nobility often have a difficult time making their way in life. Still noble but not likely to inherit the title, they must find something to do with their life. (Something proper and acceptable). Of course, the eldest has his life pre-planned and that can be just as difficult. So, is he running away from his inevitable responsibilities as the heir, or is he running away from the nobility in general? Or both?
