There was a Calvin and Hobbes strip which would later comment on the reality of people starving in America before making a joke. Calvin was reading a newspaper rather than a comic book. He told Hobbes that the newspaper said that there were millions of people starving in the world and even people starving in America. Hobbes rubbed his tummy and said, “I know how they feel!” Calvin retorted, “NO, YOU DON’T!”

We saved the people in poor countries from starving. Now they’re all coming over here to take our homes, because no good deed goes unpunished.

I’m reading “White Poverty” by Wayne Barber right now. The guy has some strong insights into the problem of why it is so difficult for us to solve the problem. The first thing that we need to do is quit blaming the poor. The second is to do a better job of defining what the poverty level really is.

We have the ability to solve world hunger but bad politics stops it.

Just have Blanche cook for the world, then folks will gladly starve.

If Blanche cooked for everyone then we’d we’d all eat the minimum, and there’d be plenty to go around.
