Wonderful. Now I have the words of the song, “I’m stuck on you” earworming their way into my head this morning.

In one of the “pinning” ceremonies with my son’s JrROTC, it was tradition to jab the pin into the chest of the recipient (lightly – this was high school after all). I don’t remember which award.

Does anyone remember Mrs. Heinz’s husband, John? He was awarded a Purple Heart for a lacerated finger.

Yeah, big deal! It was just ketchup, not blood…

Another MASH reference here, Frank Burns actually got a purple heart for getting a shell fragment in his eye, on hearing this Hawkeye exclaimed, "That was an egg shell fragment, I remember because I was the one who removed it. Hawkeye gave the purple heart to a boy who was being sent back to the US because he was underage and joined by using false papers. He developed acute appendicitus in the field and Hawkeye turned him in after he realized how young he was.

going back to the F Troop reference, if I remember correctly, the Captain got his medal of honor and promotion when he was told to order his men to retreat, but when he went to give the command he accidently knocked his hat over his face and lost control of his horse while he tried to straighten his hat. The next thing he knew he was leading his men in a charge at the most crucial point in the fight and won the battle because of it.

Repeating Ancient Slander:According to the US Navy records, it was for: a shrapnel wound in the left arm above the elbow.Oh, and the guy who led the “Swift Boat Veterans” charges claiming to have been a Witness and that Kerry “Lied” about being under Enemy Fire when he was awarded the Bronze Star, well, That Guy was ALSO awarded a Bronze Star for his actions during the same incident. Thurlow’s citation includes several phrases indicating hostile fire such as “despite enemy bullets flying about him” and “enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire”, and speaks of fire directed at “all units” of the five-boat fleet. .So, if Keery Lied, so did the guy who Claimed Kerry Lied. Or, maybe he’s Lying Now for Political Purposes….
