@vwdualnomad. Why should non-Christians (Jews, Muslims, Wiccans, Agnostics, etc.) be inconvenienced by being forced to stay home on your Holiday? In addition there are an awful lot of Christians who have no problem at all with going out to dinner, the convenience store, whatnot on Xmas. Why inconvenience those people?
I never felt at home there. My brothers and I found an affordable apartment; that was the only reason we moved in. Then we got trapped when we could’t afford to go anywhere else. As soon as I could, I did.

For at least 60 years that I know of , it was customary to say Happy Holidays for Christmas and New Years, no big deal at all.
