We’re a little late due to Scott’s vacation. But we still miss Mr. West!

Adam West made tv series fun but also upheld the ‘Caped Crusader’ tradition. RIP, to another of my childhood ‘playmates.’

When I met Adam West, I found him to be a genuine guy, with no star attitude. He was signing photos at Mid-Ohio con. Someone on the line tried to take a picture of Adam, and one of the handlers behind the table started waving his hand and telling him “No! No photos!” West looked up in the middle of a signature with a look on his face of “Why not? What’s wrong with someone taking a photo?” He had no problem with it.Later, I got on the elevator and there he was. It was just the two of us, and we just made small talk. He wanted to know if the ice machine on my floor was working, because his wasn’t.

He was a cool guy when I got his autograph both times, once on the infamous ‘bomb’ pic and the other on a rare “Batman ’66” comic book along with Burt Ward. RIP, old chum.

An excellent tribute, John and Scott; I believe that Adam West would have approved.

Watching these classic old shows is fun, but it can lead to some rather sharp surprises when you see a modern photo of someone like Adam West, William Shatner, Julie Newmar, Van Williams or Yvonne Craig. It is a reminder that they are (or were) as human as the rest of us, and felt the passage of time, just as we do.

He was the Batman I grew up with, and even though the show seems campy and goofy by modern standards, the lessons I leaned from that show—to stand up for what’s right, to defend those who can’t defend themselves, and that evil must be fought—will never go out of style.

Both Batman and Bruce Wayne were upstanding men. You know in the tv series our Bruce Wayne didn’t consume alcohol or smoke either.

One of the first tunes I sought when the Internet hit was “Adam West” by Wally Wingert and the Caped Club. Took me forever since I didn’t know the name of the act. Was thinking about AW for some reason the night before his passing was announced. Pulled up and played “Adam West” on YouTube. Look it up. Dated, yes — it goes back to the first Michael Keaton “Batman” movie in 1989 — but still a fitting tribute to the “Bat-est” guy around.
