I volunteer with a group that feeds the homeless here in San Diego, a little over a month ago one of the people we saw on a fairly regular basis, Mocca about 25, was found dead in her tent on the street from an OD. One of the other people we feed came back from his job to find that all of this stuff – tent, clothes, personal possessions, food had been stolen. All he had left was the clothes on his back. So yea, go ahead and tell me about the homeless who have Mercedes and they have no cares and just enjoy freeloading off of society.
The punchline words are a cliche. But I can’t think of a better one now. – I wonder what happened to “The homeless”, derelicts, 100 or more years ago. Jack London was one for a time. Did he write anything about what happened to the fellows around him? We know of Elizabeth Stride and what happened to her, but what happened to the people she knew who weren’t killed by Jack the Ripper?

I’m not really a bum, but I play one in cartoons.

Playing a bum was very profitable for some people: Jackie Gleason and Red Skelton for examples.

Red Skelton? The last two generations have never heard of him.

Has Furman been in this strip before? Or is this a ‘one off’?
