I worked on a project once where the work was challenging but deadlines were lax. When people asked me what I liked about the company, I told them “I like that you don’t have to work, if you don’t want to”.
I’ve been retired now for about 3 yrs. I’m still pretty busy, but I get to choose what I’m busy doing, and when I’m busy doing it. Lastly since my income no longer depends on anyone’s approval, I may have developed an attitude. . . .
I have to laugh when the right goes off on any sort of payments without work attached, preferably hard grinding work under a slave driving supervisor for welfare recipients. "If you don’t require people to work they will just layabout, the economy will collapse, the Zombie Apocalypse will be at hand, dogs will start sleeping with cats OMG!!! OMG!!!
There are millions of people who are paid every month with no work requirement at all. Most of these people are what is holding up our non-profit sector which does critical work that the government is not capable of doing. Our economy would be in serious trouble if the non-profits ever stopped. The non-profit workers – volunteers, are called retirees, and this program has been going on for many, many decades.
I think the real problem is that the Right does not like or trust people. It may also explain much of their anger, they know they are being cheated somehow, but can’t seem to catch them at it. Such a sad, pitiful life.

If Ed “slows it down,” he’ll be taking a dirt nap.

Hmm… I think I started thinking about it is kindergarten, maybe first grade. My only disappointment is that it didn’t come sooner.
