I’ve been watching “The World at War” series (made ca. 1974). One takeaway is that all the GOP bitchers and moaners and demonstrators of today should be damn glad that they weren’t caught in London, or Coventry, or Rotterdam, or Stalingrad, or Moscow, or Leningrad, or Nanchang, or Dresden, or Berlin, or Tokyo, or Nagasaki, or Hiroshima, or Warsaw, or Anzio, or scores of other places — hellholes — during WW2.
This cartoon must be from the 70s if that WWII vet is that little kid’s grandpa. Otherwise, that family waits a LONG time before having kids.
Having said that, most of the vets of that war that I know (or knew, since so many have left this world) chose to say very little about their war experiences.

Well, the picture isn’t a very good likeness, but that’s definitely me they’re talking about.

George Santayana is credited with the aphorism, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,”
Winston Churchill wrote, “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”

Except that part about the Battle of the Bulge – pretty hard to sleep through that.
