My cats regard my furniture and shelves as exorcise equipment just for them.
I bought a scratching post so they would have somewhere to sharpen their claws other than my furniture. Do they use it? Of course not! Sometimes they use the wall beside it though.
The only way to keep cats off the furniture is to have an “OUTSIDE” cat. Indoors, welcome to the furniture and counter obstacle course. I think my cats hold “meets”, and keep “personal best” times! I should get them a trophy to award to each other. I have three sisters (same litter). They’re friendly, but competitive.

Am I dumb? I try to teach the cat (yeah, right) not to go on some pieces of furniture, like kitchen counters.
