But seriously, how are out-of-shape people supposed to get in shape if they have to be in shape before they start going to the gym?
If I had the energy and determination to go to the gym, I’d just use my 50-year-old weightlifting set at home that is gathering dust.

Carl should leave that gym and find one where the instructors are truly committed to helping members strengthen their bodies.
That’s got to hurt more than his workouts…
On the other hand, you may not see " improvement ", but if he continues his normal routine but holds his present condition, that is not a bad thing either.
