My remote is more complicated than the phone/camera/browser. So, I can relate to his confusion.
The only thing they seem to have in common is the ‘Back’ button.
Put an infrared transmitter in a smartphone, and you have a universal remote. Download drivers for whatever gear you want to control.
I use my computer as a TV and my Apple iPod as a “remote”. One less gadget to lose.
