The Gift of Life Words by Chris Hardwick Art by Zen Pencils You absolutely own your mind. It’s YOURS. This is part of the ‘gift of life’ thing that you get in exchange for never having asked to be born. ZZZZ You are proprietor of your thoughts and feelings… …and you choose how you frame the many experiences that form the campus of your personality. SMASH! ! It’s a weird and glorious moment of self-awareness… …the day you realize that you are the warden… …rather than the prisoner of your emotions. POOF! CREEEEAAK The interesting thing about our minds… …is that if we don’t actively seize control of them… …they default to AUTOPILOT. SMASH SMASH ! ! ! ! ! ! ! POOF CLICK! SWISH! When you don’t take an aggressive role in shaping your thoughts, feelings, and perceptions… …you become a helpless passenger… …floating through the universe like a ghost ship… …merely reacting to wherever it takes you. Awesomely, you don’t have to go along with it. - Chris Hardwick

That lesson, about being the warden of your emotions, is, sadly, difficult for many to grasp.

I try, but being OCD I tend to find my feelings and imaginations sometimes fly out of my control to areas I don’t want.

It took me so long to understand that for myself. And it is difficult to describe to others what actually happened. Thank you for that description!

Meta-thinking is an art. Whenever you find yourself in a repeating cycle of negative thoughts, remember the mantra “Do something else.” (Exercise is best)
If that does not work, seek professional help where you can be taught to own your thoughts and control them.

Wow… I just discovered Zen Pencils; there is so much truth in this – that we control our emotions – this is well shown and reinforced through your beautiful artwork.
Thank you, Gavin!
