It’s like when Patrick said to SpongeBob on the bus where is Leaving Bikini Bottom. “We’ve just past the sign,” he said. “’You are now in Leaving Bikini Bottom” (they accidentally took the wrong bus which was really going to Rock Bottom).
We have several of those along the Texas freeways, It is where the on ramp and the off ramps use the same lane for a couple hundred feet. The local name for them is “suicide lanes”.
Exit ramps often exit one roadway to then enter onto another roadway where it becomes an entrance ramp. Most common with clover leaf or hybrid clover leaf road configurations.Don’t over complicate the joke. Other exits of course, exit to a stop light or sign where you have to make the decision to turn left or right. Though, I suppose you could also go straight up the entrance ramp and get back on the road you were on. ;)
Notice that it is EXiTRANCE – I first assumed an exit to an entrance – but why is the i lower case, but all else is upper case? Is it where I put my EX into a TRANCE, or where my EX puts ME into a TRANCE?

I wonder how many accidents have been caused by people looking and trying to understand that sign?

Actually, that seems to be a logical word in today’s world.
