I’ve had that happen a few times – the flight was ahead of schedule so much that when we landed, we had to sit and wait for 30 – 45 minutes for a gate to open up so we could get off the plane… (LAX was common for this; others in the Midwest, less so)…
I remember back when fuel was cheap and in flight movies was something new that planes did actually circle around until the movie was over. On the old show “I’ve Got a Secret”, for one of the guest groups their secret was that the plane circled the airport until the movie was over.
