I’ve always wondered: if missionaries come by and they’re not saying $1.50 for a Watchtower or $1.00 for a Book of Mormon, how is that soliciting when people say soliciting involves money? Additionally, what about Girl Scouts’ cookies and school fundraisers coming to your home which has a “no solicitors” sign?
We had a “NO AGENTS – SOLICITORS or PEDDLERS” sign posted on our screen door as I was growing. My mother had a great disliking of people knocking on our door that wasn’t invited. When anyone with a religious organization knocked she would tell them they were all three. They were an agent of God, soliciting money for their cause and peddling their religion and quietly shut the door on them. Often they would just stand on the porch stunned with a puzzled look on their faces. They couldn’t comprehend how anyone could be that rude.

Selling “no soliciting” signs is a very bad move. NO REPEAT BUSINESS! ;D

I don’t need a sign. If I actually decide to answer the door I simply tell them to keep moving in a clear no nonsense manner.

It just might work, sorta like selling umbrellas during a rainstorm.
