If you found a nugget that large just dig it out of the hole recover it. Buy a small parcel of land at a very cheap price and claim you found it there.
We bought our “forever” house in October after a lot of negotiation. One of the final counter-offers was that they kept mineral rights. You only have to look around to see all the natural gas and oil wells to decide that this isn’t a good idea.

What does it take to get mineral rights?

Zig, drag it into your house, clean it up and say you found it in the basement. Who would know?

Not how that works in the state I live in. That gold would belong to Ziggy. Mineral rights are part of the deal unless you decide to lease them out.

Poor Ziggy! Now he will have to cover up that hole and find another place for that tree.

Dig some up, cover the rest, honk out to the dessert with all the prospecting fixins and honk on back to an assayer, simple…

It’s no longer underground. It’s on the surface, so that mineral is his – except his artist won’t let him keep it.

We had minerals rights for a property – the royalties amounted to about $20 per year.
