Netanyahu has been subsidizing and propping up Hamas for years, because it suited his needs to have a vicious enemy rather than a reasonable governing body that was competent at governing. He’s still using them to justify a much more sweeping and cruel agenda that the far-right parties have been pushing for decades, to conquer and annex all of what they consider rightfully Israel.
Any solution that requires a complete surrender followed by likely war crimes trials or executions is not one any body will agree to. It’s a non-starter. Negotiations always involve some way for the loser to save face. And in this situation, IMO, there’s no peaceful solution unless both Hamas and the Netanyahu-far-right coalition are deposed — far outside what the US can control.
That’s basically why I’m not on board with beating up on Biden for not making it stop.
