Check out the caption, Morty. This cartoon isn’t about income inequality. This cartoon is about posterity. Right now, especially in Europe and here in the United States, wealthy elites and their pet politicians are telling ordinary people that they have to cut back while the lifestyles of the rich continue unaffected. That’s what this is about.

Since you did bring up income inequality, however, the main cause of income inequality is the absence of communism. As long as you have a capitalist system in which it is considered perfectly acceptable to say that one person’s labor is worth more than someone else’s, you will have income inequality. Moreover, as long as you have that system, inequality will continue to get worse. Until revolution inevitably occurs. That’s the nature of capitalism.

I have to laugh when you talk about not buying overpriced stuff or imported stuff. Voting with your dollars doesn’t work. Only in small communities. When you say not to have accepted wage cuts and to go on strike and to unionize, I’m right there with you, but you’re kind of conveniently forgetting the fact that the government has been passing all sorts of laws to make it more difficult to do all of those things. The balance between labor and management has tilted decidedly toward management to the point that labor can’t possibly get back to an even playing field. You can’t possibly vote in anyone who would restore a progressive taxation system because there is no one like that running, and no one like that will be allowed to run under this particular political system. Actually, under the present system, there really isn’t anything anyone can do other than whine. The answer is to get rid of the current system.

But, although that is an interesting subject, and one that I’ve written extensively about and will continue to do so in the future, this cartoon really is about the drive toward austerity.

Actually, the problem is not “income inequality” it is those who think that they should not have to work and are still “entitled” to money and income. You know, those who have been on wellfare for 4 or 5 generations.

The true definition of Austerity pictured: cut back social services in favor of tax cuts to the wealthy. Its basically what’s killing Greece.

If I had bet money that the ultra conservative trolls would be out today, I would be among the rich!!

This , just say no, do nothing Congress, not only the worst in all the history of the US, but the one that owns the worst performance rating in US history, has finally had to compromise. Sorry extremists, but I find that all to the good.

Now, if the next Congress can start from there (hopefully with more moderates on both sides of the aisle) maybe they can actually get something done. Wouldn’t that be a terrific crock though.

But the extremists (particularly the ultra conservatives) on these boards will still only be doom and gloom (especially as President Obama will still be POTUS, like it or not)!!

So what it comes down to is that you object to Obama going to Hawaii? Where he grew up? It’s not like he was born in a foreign country and flies home to Kenya! BTW: What about Bushie flying back to DC to sign the “This lady ain’t dead, she can get up and dance anytime” bill, then going back to his Texas “ranch”. Which bill was later overturned by the Supreme Court! At least Obama was working on a FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY bill! Not that Republican care about that. Deficits don’t matter (except when a Dem is in office!)

Hey Morty, want to come run for president? We need fresh meat for the political machine and you’ve got a message we could sell.

I like the way you think. Unfortunately, many of your detractors have not had the opportunity to view things outside their own limited and confined little world. []I seem to recall a story about a worm who lives inside a bottle, never having seen anything other than the inside of that bottle. “This is the best of all possible worlds,” was the recurring theme.[]Thus, when I read something like “Here’s where German socialism has landed you….” followed by a link that includes the following quote, I have to wonder if these individuals have ever been outside their own little “bottle” (take that how you will) and viewed things from “outside the box”! (?) I also wonder if they read something entirely or simply stop when they see something they think they can “sell” to support their limited vision. (?)[]Here is the quote from the very site that was linked by the troll in question:“They are not being deported or expelled,” he said. “Many are here of their own free will, and these are the results of sensible decisions by their families who know they will be better off.” []To me, that speaks to the greed of capitalism that is killing the United States. But that’s just my personal opinion.

So he made two trips to Hawaii. No guarantee the House was going to act. And considering the threats against this president and his family, I would not put them all on the same plane either. Same goes for Bush. At least we’re not giving Secret Service protection to two young adults to fly around on their school vacations and get drunk and half-naked in public!
