Hamster cages don’t get covered at night because they are nocturnal animals. They are active at night and sleep during the day, and no amount of covering the cage will change this. A little Crisco on the wheel should stop the noise.
Ah, yes. The long, noisy nights being kept awake by our pet hamsters running on their little wheel when my sister and I were kids. I remember them well — not fondly, of course — but well!!!!!
Ha – as a kid, I had a hamster breeding service. At one time I had 16 breeding pairs in all the colors and hair types. My parents used to wonder at how I was able to sleep at night with all the racket. In junior high, we found I was almost deaf in my right ear. I’d sleep on my left side – no problem.I spent every Saturday moring cleaning cages.
Actually, a well fed hamster that is allowed to exercise all night long can make a hearty snack. A little butter and lemon pepper…mmm boy. Just make sure you let it mature first.
(disclaimer: that was just a joke. i’d never use lemon pepper.)

Run hamster Run! And I don’t mean on the wheel!

Don’t you have to put a blanket over their cage if you want them to be quiet at night?

I’m sure this scene has been played out in every house that’s had a hamster.

Too bad they don’t have a cat.

Is hammy in their bedroom then? Otherwise the walls and floors at chez Ellie must be very thin.

I knew there was a reason(other than my wife detests the little rodents)that we never allowed our children to have a hamster.

Maybe some WD-40 on the wheel will help.

Put him in the bathroom on another floor.

My hanster had a large plastic cage, and the wheel was rather quiet, just a low whap-whaping sound..\\//_

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. It just needs a dab of WD-40. lol

Just oil the wheel. Or put the cage in a remote part of the house.
alondra about 11 years ago
Definitely put a cover over the cage and put it in another room and close the door.

Joke would have been just as funny without the swear symbols…
