Hmmm, I’m thinking the two stories will intersect very soon. Perhaps Toad will hit a ball into the cemetery and a clew of some kind will be found.

Mornin’ VistaBill, Mikeyj, Gweedo, margueritem, etc.!Gosh, I don’t see the confusion some of you seem to.The story is moving straight ahead, in a natural progression; maybe today’s events are taking place the day after the dinner meeting in the restaurant.I do have one COMPLAINT, folks…I don’t read Mike’s Yahoo page specifically to AVOID SPOILERS – like the pedophile element somebody seems to talk about every day.I’m sorry Mike mentioned it, because he’s got a great murder mystery plot going, and waiting for it to appear is distracting from what we’re reading.(Besides, it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to guess the motive for the murder being an act of child molestation.) If you have to talk about something you read elsewhere, PLEASE – note that it’s A SPOILER so those of us who don’t want to read it can skip over it.Think of it this way: you’ve paid way too much for the tickets to a movie you really want to see, and as you’re sitting watching the film, the putz sitting behind you – who just saw the movie – starts telling everyone around what’s going to happen next.See what I mean?

—Based on Chicago’s Graceland Cemetery? But seriously, a “vacant lot” where kids can play in a modern city is all but an anomaly (empty lots of any kind are now rare in big cities unless maybe in a distressed zone, e.g., parts of Detroit). I grew up in Chicago and near suburbs, and vacant lots of my early youth vanished before my eyes as new housing subdivisions proliferated after WW II and as businesses, light industry, and shopping malls gobbled up real estate….

In the cemetery is the body of our victim and killer. Only the killers family is now famous and willing to do anything to keep the secret

Is there any way to get into Joe Staton and Mike Curtis’ studio, so that I can read the whole complete story board??? Daily strips are so sloooow, and drawn out. One could die before the story is finished._______________________________________The idea of a single studio where all of the creative team work together is a thing of the past (if it ever existed at all).

From what I understand, the creators of the strip live in various places across the country and communicate through email and telephone. Mike emails his scripts to Joe who does the pencils. Joe scans in the pencils and forwards them to Shelley who electronically inks them. The finished electronic file is then forwarded to TMS for distribution.

Unlike the past, there is no “hard copy” of the finished product—just an electronic digital file. Tarry can confirm or refute this since he is married to Shelley.

SPOILER SO NIGHTSHADE CAN SKIP THIS*******************

here, this “blabbermouth” is re-posting mike’s comment in the yahoo group about an hour ago regarding the pedophile story, his wife’s health, and the moon maid story as well

REMEMBER, THIS IS A SPOILER… SKIP IT IF YOU DON’T WANT TO SEE!!!!

At the moment Carole is in 30 days rehab, so I get up, go there, come home sleep and repeat. I occasionally find time for the internet. And I write Tracy while visiting.

We junked the pedophile idea as too many would object to such a horrible true crime. They don’t tend to last long in jail, as other felons look down on them. The prison nickname was, at one time, “short eyes”

Still working on MM story. Spoiler ahead:

Just finished sequence where Honeymoon finally meets her.

    Mike

Is that a Weeping Angel in the cemetery? (Dr. Who reference)^^Well, it COULD be a Dr Who reference but, more likely it isn’t; as the narration says, it’s the oldest cemetery in the area and, in Victorian times, the 2 most popular types of memorials were the ones that looked something like a church steeple (centre) and “Weeping angels”Weeping angels were usually used for the tombs of children, who in Victorian times, had a much higher death rate than children today

SPOILER ALERT!!I wouldn’t call this a spoiler myself (spoilerish perhaps), but for those who don’t want to know ANY details about what is coming ahead, please skip the rest of this post.-———————————————————————————tsull2121, you said that when the Moon Maid story becomes the main story, it will last “8 weeks and (if i recall correctly) wrap up around april.”Actually, the MM story is supposed to run 12-16 weeks, and wrap up in late June/mid July. This according to announcements by Mike:12-16 weeks announcement: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DickTracy/message/16173May 15 will be “the middle or so of the MM script,” which pushes the end out to at least late June: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DickTracy/message/16147

I’m Native American, moderately liberal and not insulted by who ever made the original statement about Native Americans. Some of the liberal jokes here go right to the line or beyond between funny and insulting but, I always keep in mind:There’s insults made to be insulting, Jokes made to be jokes, Jokes poking fun at stereotypes andJokes made by those who don’t get the difference. Thankfully, for my sanity and my ability to get along with my neighbors in a melting pot country, I usually do know the difference. If its not meant to be hateful, well, let me put it this way.I have 99 problems, being able to tolerate a little cluelessness ain’t one of them.

I’ve got a great idea – let’s replace the terms “PC”/“politically correct” with the word “respect.”Most of the people I’ve seen who complain about being “PC,” are just angry that they can’t insult anyone they want to.

Tarry, as someone who used to work as an artist & illustrator, the idea of inking digitally is so alien to me, sparks shot from my ears when I read that. (Bzzt! Bzzzzzt!)Coloring, I can inderstand, but inking? Without ink? How? (Bzzzzt!)

“Can’t do that [make fun of] anymore (Unless it’s a middle-aged, slightly overweight White dude”********************Not only overweight dudes. The overweight are the last fair game left for people to poke fun at and discriminate against. This even though in 2012 68.8% of US adults were either overweight or obese.

As far as the stereotypes go, I’m relating them as they affected Dick Tracy. Back in the late 80’s-early 90’s, a local channel here started airing the old UPA Dick Tracy cartoons. Not soon after, all the episodes with Joe Jitsu and Go-Go Gomez were pulled, due to stereotyping. Growing up with these things, I was annoyed that the Joe Jitsu episodes were pulled, because as a kid, I didn’t see or know from stereotypes. I only saw Joe Jitsu as the only one who had a clue and could subdue the villains with the least amount of personal damage to himself.

So we were left with Hemlock Holmes and Officer Heap O-Callory. which means it’s ok to make fun of the British (Hemlock was an English Bulldog, after all, even though he sounded like Cary Grant), and rotund dim-witted white guys.

As far as Go-Go Gomez goes, I’m convinced he was a rip-off of Speedy Gonzalez. I’ve even heard that The Cartoon Network and Boomerang won’t play the Speedy shorts anymore, because of stereotyping (even though Speedy won the animation academy award in 1960. Not bad for a “stereotype”). To which I can only say “Thank goodness forr youtube and DVD”!

and by the way, I’m enjoying this story. Team Tracy rocks!
