@howgoezitby what objective standard do you back up that we have the best medical care in the world?certainly not by infant mortality where we rance 50th, below GREECE and the (gawd forbid) European Union. people put forth a statement like yours, which is throwing down the ‘wrap yourself in the flag; if you disagree with me you are unpatriotic’. but facts have a nasty way of getting in the way.by what measurable standard would you like to measure the quality of health care in the USA – how about mental health?I know where! how about the income of the CEO’s of health insurance companies? – i’m sure we’re #1 in that by a long shot.howzabout in dollars spent for care delivered? – I’m sure we’re #1 there too.
At least try to make your lies believable. We have the most EXPENSIVE health care system in the world. When the usual metrics (infant mortality, adult longevity, obesity are considered the US ranks somewhere between 5th and 10th.
Thank God for the courage of the president. These strips reveal the bitter hatred so many feel when they can’t always get their way. As long as we have men like Obama to lead us we can always hope to find our way away from those that preach evil.
You seem to have the typical American stereotypes that makes you believe that “other countries” look like the photos of old world villages from the 1800’s. Most of our technology today (medical, computers, telecomm) comes from these “other countries”. My job takes me all over the US and Europe, and I have been to American hospitals that are lacking in equipment and facilities that aree common place in small towns in Germany and Scandanavia. The only country I can honestly say was harder to get good care in than the US was Ireland, and that was just red tape. Otherwise, based on ACTUAL experience, our healthcare system in the US falls short of most of Europe.
You say, “There is nothing wrong or inferior to the health care provided in the USA.” And evidently the best schools, as well? Parse your sentence, please.
Mr. Ima said, “The ‘free’ healthcare is bankrupting the other countries.”*No, it’s not bankrupting them. True, they are having financial problems, but they are mainly due to a collapsed financial bubble, which, like our 2008 Wall Street collapse, had little to do with healthcare costs.
So we need to remain the biggest major power in the world without a decent healthcare system?-—————————Response from WHOZIT:@masterskrain

Why do you continue to live here, sixpack, if things are SO MUCH better elsewhere? I was talking about the care, not the cost., sixpack….-—————————It seems that a certain troll has wrapped itself up in its own lies..The original post from masterskrain mentioned the healthcare system!!!!.The response from the troll addressed that statement with “There is nothing wrong or inferior to the health care provided in the USA.”.After many, many members challenged that, this troll tries to skitter away and claim that I was talking about the care, not the cost…..Liar, liar – pants on fire!.It’s all right there for everyone to see.
@Mark Casey…how lovely that you think you know how Lincoln felt, and would have reacted. In case you don’t remember your history…he was an intelligent man, and not a bigot. That certainly puts him one up on you! Even dead, he’s a better man than you are! Geez, Romney lost, get over it!!!
Simple fact, Lincoln would have declared the “TEA party” in the same lame crate as the southerners who seceded, and gone to war against them as well.
Two things on health care, yes, we have quality doctors and hospitals, but they cost up to 50 times as much as care in other nations, that is just as high in quality.
I get my medicines from VA (mostly) and VA pays less than 1/3 what taxpayers pay pharmaceutical companies (and “private” insurance providers) because VA negotiates prices, but REPUBLICANS PROHIBITED Medicare and Medicaid form doing the same, greatly increasing costs.
After decades of buying my own hearing aids,, VA has caught up with technology, and I got a new set last week through the VA. My audiologist pointed out that VA procured the aids from the same company he does, at roughly 1/3 his COST for the same items, then he adds on his small profit margin.
Yes, we have good care, but the cost, due to HUGE profit margins for medical and pharmaceutical CORPORATIONS, puts much of that care beyond the reach of many people, or bankrupts them when they can’t afford insurance. We need national health INSURANCE (NOT government provided care) for ALL people, at affordable, single payer rates with everyone in the payer/benefit pool to keep those prices DOWN!
Lincoln, the first Republican president, definitely would have seen the benefits of a “single payer system”, and signed it into law Teddy Roosevelt tried, but both his Republicans, and the “old style” Democrats, wouldn’t go for it.
@grimmer“Please tell me again the qualifications that got Obama elected in the first place.”US constitution article 2 section 1 states:
No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.
I like the cartoon. It’s one of the most hopeful I’ve seen recently. Having stood in front of that statue and read the words in the museum below, I believe he would want us to try harder to work together instead of working hard to divide each other.Respectfully,C.
antiquetracman: “That this nation shall have a new birth, and that government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish from the earth”. Then there’s that silly “all men are created equal”. Yes,, I think it’s pretty easy to see where Lincoln’s thinking went, and he spoke for himself.
Because they DON’T, except when right wing sites like the Heritage Foundation say they do.-———————————————
for providing those two links. I learned a lot from reading them.. Unfortunately, I think they probably won’t make a dent in the shell that the ignorant build around themselves..In the 70’s I lived in Germany and enjoyed the fact that medical and dental concerns were practically non-existent. I’ve continued to be amazed at those who point out the “faults” of the British and Canadian systems and ignored the benefits provided by the German system..Maybe there’s hope yet?
