I don’t think he’s mad; he looks to be catching (and following) a scent now – he caught Tortie off guard when he switched directions so quickly.
I had to read it twice, but I agree with T_Lexi.
LD just picked up a scent Tortie. Never get in the way of a dog on the trail of something!
And Tortie/Steve is making a pun on “turn on you.”
