    Sahasrara: The Crown Chakra (Wikipedia)

Sahasrara, which means 1000 petalled lotus, is generally considered to be the chakra of pure consciousness, within which there is neither object nor subject. When the female kundalini Shakti energy rises to this point, it unites with the male Shiva energy, and a state of liberating samadhi is attained. Symbolized by a lotus with one thousand multi-coloured petals, it is located either at the crown of the head, or above the crown of the head. Sahasrara is represented by the colour white and it involves such issues as inner wisdom and the death of the body.

Its role may be envisioned somewhat similarly to that of the pituitary gland, which secretes hormones to communicate to the rest of the endocrine system and also connects to the central nervous system via the hypothalamus. According to author Gary Osborn, the thalamus is thought to have a key role in the physical basis of consciousness and is the ‘Bridal Chamber’ mentioned in the Gnostic scriptures. Sahasrara’s inner aspect deals with the release of karma, physical action with meditation, mental action with universal consciousness and unity, and emotional action with “beingness.”34

In Tibetan buddhism, the point at the crown of the head is represented by a white circle, with 32 downward pointing petals. It is of primary importance in the performance of phowa, or consciousness projection after death, in order to obtain rebirth in a Pure Land. Within this chakra is contained the White drop, or Bodhicitta, which is the essence of masculine energy.

Some medieval manuscripts show the light emanating from the saint’s entire body, not just the head itself. Then again, Michelangelo and other artists depicted Moses with horns of light (yes, I know I am connecting to Wikipedia, but it’s a simple explanation): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moses_(Michelangelo)

Trying to locate an older Non Sequitur strip. One panel, guy ice fishing, small Martians hovering over his shoulder, “well, that confirms it, there’s no intelligent life here.”

If anyone has a pointer to the date published, it would be greatly appreciated.

@TheTrustedMechanic: regarding yesterday’s ASE reference. Pretty much all ll I know about cars is suck-squeeze-pop-ptooey. So I don’t fool around with my own car, and instead look for a mechanic for ASE certification and/or who maintains the fleet for the local police department.

Others say that the halo was an aura, or a sphere of light on light(bubble?) around the head.

I never saw anyone’s aura, but my daughter’s friend Aloha, when we went to pick her up at the Tampa airport, said that she had seen a big, bright, white parabola-shaped light jutting up from the crowd we were in. She later found that it was coming from my mother. My mom was a remarkable person and attracted people with her kindness and quiet acceptance of them. Sadly, Aloha was killed in an auto crash a few years later, broad-sided by a man who was fleeing the police. My daughter had had a dream two weeks earlier about her being killed in an auto accident, and had even called Aloha and tried to warn her. I know all this doesn’t prove anything, but I believe there are things going on out there that a lot of us can’t accept as possible.
