This is a wonderful piece of art. Thanks to Joe Staton and the rest of the team! Pencils, inks, coloring, all extremely well done. Very nice way to wrap up the story.
Can totally see George and Tracy taking a drive out for a last look at the lake before George moves on. Great art, nice ending. Chalk up another success for Team Tracy.
God created light and dark, life and death, good and evil; we’ll never eliminate crime and murder in this world — just keep trying to point ourselves and others in the right direction and make sure that the line between right and wrong remains clear. That’s an extremely important “Crimestoppers textbook” tip, because the seats nearest to doorways on transit are generally designated as “courtesy seats” for seniors and persons with disabilities — the ones more vulnerable to crime. One might add to that warning that valuables like bags should be placed so that your body is between the item and the doorway.
@Sweet Betty@morrow@Otto Baron@stevelecherYou all summed up my thoughts on this as well. I really enjoy the art, and the times when the current team captures the mood of Classic Dick Tracy – but I do feel that this story, and others, have left us with lots of holes to fill in with conjecture. I also have hopes that story length restrictions will be lifted, and then they can tell a story that flows, even if it does have multiple elements. One thing you asked – about the lake – i went back and reread where they drained the lake, and they said it was for repairs to the dam. So, I think that must mean that the repairs are done, and the lake has been allowed to fill in again.
I very seldom comment, but would like to “ditto” what Sweet Betty and others have said. I found this site some two years ago, during the last terrible stories by DL. I echoed a lot of criticism during those days, and was so glad to see the new team. (BTW, I am also thankful for the years DL kept the strip going. Some of his early work was very good.) There has been a lot of defense that the loose ends is because of the time frame. That doesn’t work. A good story will take into account the time period allotted, and will pace itself to fit. There are just too many questions left unanswered in most of the stories thus far. On the other hand, I believe this team will get into the feel of daily strips (in which people have 24 hours to tear apart every little detail) and a “graphic novel” (in which you hurry to the end of the story in less than 1/2 hour). Having said that, I still praise this team, and especially the art work!
except for being able to appreciate fine drawing and coloring. I consider that a ‘sweet’ bonus.
I understand that, Gweedo, and I’m happy for you and the others who are truly enamored of the fine artwork. I grew up reading “funny books”, which included everything from Little Lulu through Archie and to Superman, et al. As a child I wasn’t aware of good writing or artwork, I just knew I liked to read certain funnybooks and not others. I believe I was growing out of the funnybook stage when the “graphic novel” era came along and I started hearing about the magnificent artwork in them. Maybe that’s why I don’t look at comics with that type of critical eye. There’s no doubt that today’s panels excel in that area, but I’d trade three of the lovely views for three panels of explanations.
The horrors that occurred in Camp Freedom were the unconstitutional imprisonment of American citizens, the impounding of their property, and the financial devastation to hard-working families—all without due process. Children, like George Takei, grew up surrounded by chain link, barbed wire, and armed guards in towers. Sweatbox committed one horror there—he buried the body of his murder victim. Our government committed thousands in the Japanese concentration camps.

Given human nature, I don’t see that happening, but it’s a noble thought.

Wrap up or not (and we all know that this story was edited for various reasons), this is a great end sequence.

Beautifully rendered strip today! Tray’s hope is probably not within near reach, but it’s still a noble aspiration.

Beautiful artwork. Yeah George, sometimes the stories are ugly; but sometimes they’re nice too. That’s people for you.
Morrow Cummings about 11 years ago
I thought they drained the lake, and that was where the story started with the mudlarkers. They must have refilled it.

Wow. I thought last Sunday would be hard to beat, but this? Amazing work today by Joe, Mike, and the team.

Well done ending, gentlemen. I look forward to the day I can take one of the Dick Tracy books with your new strip in it, and have you two sign it.

You know? This Dick Tracy thing, it’s a pretty good comic. I sure hope that Staton and Curtis are getting at least some of the money I give goComics.

Nice speach today Dick. My 5 year old daughter wants lollipops, rainbows and Unicorns everyday, but that’s not going to happen either.

Thank you for an excellent coda to this story…reminds me of some of the final scenes from the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes films…

Maybe because of editing but this story is kind of a confusing mess. It really didn’t make much sense.

I’m noting Tracy has a more optimistic outlook than Harry Callahan.
