Soon is a relative term here. I would not think it very possible that this particular ship will be sailing in anything less than a year at best. There will be major repairs needed for the engine room (perhaps repairs that should have been made prior to this ill fated voyage).And the clean up is going to have to be very, very extensive. Heck, for the sake of the PR alone it may be necessary for Carnival to write this particular ship off!!

At it’s worst conditions were as bad as a “bad camping trip” exact words from one of the passengers. Nobody died! Get over it, what a bunch of soft sissies. Come to think of it a bad camping trip sounds much more fun than a cruise.

It is illegal to dump at sea, the ship wiil be checked in port, and if stuff that should return does’t, it will result in a huge fine. The crew cannot let anyone dump anything overboard.
You’re right about port, but starboard comes from Old English ‘steorboard’, referring to the side where the steering oar was on.I had to google that… my first thought was that you drink fortified wine on the port side & coffee on the starbucks, err starboard side.

The real question I have is, considering how much waste/ garbage/ etc ships have been dumping at sea, for centuries, what’s to think these “becalmed” ships don’t do same? Also didn’t realize that most cruise lines are owned by the same company until the news story came out.
Of course, modern cruise ships are a lot more like a container ship loaded with phone booths, crammed with people, elbow to elbow, and trapped at sea. Despite the ads, looks about as much fun as burning your old tennis shoes, while wearing them.
