Looks like Janis was having nightmares and Arlo used his elbow to wake her up, thus saving her from her nightmare all while he was still asleep. At least that’s my take on it.

I use the same tactic. A little poke goes a long way.

The downside is that you pretty much have to be awake to do that.

Been there, done that.

For Arlo’s sake, all of the damsels better have been Janis.

He couldn’t save her from the things that go thump in the night.

My husband just pats me – back, hand, whatever portion of my body is closest – and it works everry time. Sometimes I wake up and he holds me for a while, and then I fall asleep. Peacefully.

I make sounds in my sleep too. My husband has to shake me awake.

Many years ago, one of my grandfathers tried nudging my grandmother when she was having a nightmare. She had been dreaming that the devil was chasing her, and she let out a blood -curdling scream when he touched her, thinking that the devil had caught her. Fortunately. she woke up immediately, and she had a strong heart, and they were both OK.

Probably not the way Arlo would want to poke Janis if he were awake.
