Red and Rover by Brian Basset for March 30, 2013
Transcript:
Red: Rover, if you could meet a famous dog in history, like Lassie, run tin tin or bandit from "Jonny Quest," who would it be? Rover: Easy. Laika, the dog the russkies put into space. Red: Um... That might be a hair difficult. Y'see, Rover... Um... Laika's no longer on this planet. Rover: Well, duh!

Laika died in space. The Russians eventually built a statue in her memory.

Laika was EXECUTED in space.

WytZox1 : They did. In the case of women, ten years and four days before the sexist Americans would let Sally ride.

Red, if you ask about dogs “in history,” you imply that dead dogs are fair game.

Considering this strip is set back when these dogs were alive folks, Laika is a fair choice for Rover to make, as he would not have watched the broadcasts.
