Val: Wally and Joan are in PEORIA.
Gramma Evie: Ha, ha, very funny. How's Paris?
Val: I'm serious. Their plane made an emergency landing...in Peoria!!
Gramma Evie: I have a cousin there! Do you have time to visit??
Joan: No, MA!
First vacation we ever had from our kids for a weekend, we went to themed hotel, like the Madonna Inn (google it), and stayed in the 50’s room, where the bed was half of a old car in front of a projector screen (like a drive in) … and slept soundly for the first 10 hours straight …
Looks like Luci is fine without her mom (which is usually the way it works). The part that I find funny is the “old-fashioned” phone cord. Haven’t seen one of those in a while!
Fancy ring-a-dings, they called them in the 1970s. AT&T actually sold phones that resembled them, even if they had a rotary dial on the base. This was the decade before PCs et cetera, and the only video game out was Space Invaders. (Maybe Pong and Berserk too, but that was so long ago.)
Want Joan excited to visit Peoria when they lied that was the trip. Heck being there might help her nervers. Instead if being in another country on a different contenent. They are just in anither state

I hope the emergency landing isn’t for long. It’s cutting into their Paris time.

Well, they’re only 2 /12 hours from Paris, Illinois. I say, make the best of it.

…….. and the video games then were the size of pinball machines.

I dunno…I don’t think Peoria is really being made fun of…it just that it has a great name.
