If my only experience with German food was sauerkraut, I would never try anything again. Fortunately, when I lived in Germany, we had a great restaurant 2 minutes away (walking). And every little village has more than one great restaurant. Not to mention the beer.

The only way I’ll eat sauerkraut is if it’s on a Reuben sandwich. Otherwise, no thank you.

Schultz in Hogan’s Hero’s wasn’t far off the mark. My father spent 18 months in a German prison camp. The guards were mainly old men; the young were out fighting. On a long march, one of the guards handed my Dad his rifle to carry; it had gotten too heavy for the old guard. My father figured the guy was in his 70’s.(Of course, the bullets had been removed.)

I started reading your book last night…Really enjoying it. It has a Douglas Adams feel. Read the free download last night. Tonight I pay for it!

We had great food when we visited Germany. And only had sauerkraut once since it was during the summer and they don’t tend to eat it then. Their processed meats were wonderful unlike the bland stuff in the US.
