The Outrage doesn’t disappear and the victims and their family are not forgotten.
Once the shock of the event is over – people realize that the cure offered by Obama and Biden (Give up constitutional rights) is worse then living with the risk of a few nut jobs.
There are, of course, easier cures to the problem. Most schools now are locked during the day and require that you use a badge or show ID to a camera before you are allowed on school grounds.
Forwarned is forearmed – People are a little more likely to report a guy walking down the street with an assault rifle on their back.
I don’t have a problem with background checks but I do have a problem with the Federal government getting more involved with any issue. I want less of them.
To Mephistopholes: “Constitutional rights” like not being searched without a warrant, or being able to yell “FIRE” in a crowded theater? No constitutional rights are absolute. Except it seems when we want to trot around with a killing machine. (In case you hadn’t noticed, that’s what a combat rifle is.)
I have stated my own feelings about this numerous times. Prohibition doesn’t work and I am not disappointed that it (thus far) has failed on the federal level. What does bother me is the defeat of the background checks. If it would deter anyone from buying a firearm that shouldn’t I’m all for it. The paranoia factor about the government databases containing ownership information is ridiculous. I have been affiliated with the criminal justice system enough in the past to promise you that 5 minutes or less on a computer and any law enforcement person knows all about you.
“it faces a tough fight for ratification by U.S. senators who contend it could affect Americans’ gun rights.”
Considering the fight going on right now and the diminished prospects for a federal bill, I would say the U.N. treaty is DOA. Add to that the lack of compliance to existing U.N. treaties and you might consider their efforts as futile.

They even supress collecting information, so there are no facts to base a restriction on !

you obviously haven’t been paying attention to the UN arms treaty that is being discussed right now by our prez.
