^you guys think that if you keep saying the same thing, it will sound reasonable. if sandy hook is acceptable, I think you need to recheck your sanityI was flying transcon on a 757 the other day and sitting next to a pilot (who was deadheading). The pilot made the regular announcments about time and alititude and weather, and then told everyone on the plane that he, the first officer, the purser and some of the flight attendants were armed, and told us what they were armed with.I thought that was an interesting announcement, and said so to the pilot sitting next to me. he said you really don’t want to shoot a gun in an airplane. why? not because of decompression or anything exotic you might think of, but he wave his hand in a circular fashion and pointed out there’s a lot of critical infrastructure – hydraulics, electronics, etc… running through the fuselage that might send the plane out of control if it were damaged by bullets.I took that to heart. If we put more guns and more bullets and more people (who can go crazy) in schools and bullets start flying, there might be a lot of stuff you don’t want bullets to hit. maybe even a kid or two.
Danny, having been on aircraft several times (non-pressurized) when bullets DID hit things “critical to flight operation”, resulting in unwanted rapid contact with the ground, trees, and other inanimate objects, I wouldn’t want someone shooting inside a 757. (BTW, I believe Air Marshals use “frangible” bullets less likely to damage the aircraft, or non-targeted individuals.)
