It most certainly does matter, BrassOrchid. Societies with greater disparities between rich and poor have more crime for a start. Compare Sweden and Japan to the USA and Brazil. For “society” to have any meaning there must be a feeling that we are all in this together. That doesn’t happen when the rich live in security-patrolled enclaves.
