It’s been longer than that for me. 1978, Superman. I didn’t realize it been that long either. I had to look it up. That’s when it came out, that’s when I saw it.

I felt old when xkcd did the comic (several years ago) that pointed out that Disney’s The Little Mermaid was made closer to the moon landing than the modern day.

Jurassic Park in 1993. And technically, it wasn’t a movie theater. I worked at Universal Studios at the time and saw it at work in a huge screening room as big as a movie theater. Last time I was in a real movie theater (where I had to pay) was in 1975 for Monty Python and the Holy Gail.

Man my wife works with had to go to anger management class. He took the woman’s cell phone from her and threw it against the wall when she talked through the whole movie.The judge gave him no points for not killing her.

Last two were “Argo”, great and “The Rise of the Guardians”..It’s tough getting a fifteen year old to go to the movies with mom and dad.

Do drive-ins count?? If not, 1983… and I haven’t missed them at all. Drive-ins are certainly different, wind the window up and if the next car want to take on the phone all the way through there’s no bother. Not to mention that you can take all your own food and drink if you wish. I like to take a picnic basket of cheeses, sandwiches, fruit, cake with a nice bottle of red wine and make a real night out!!

Last movie I saw was The Croods with my grand daughter. Before that it was some Spiderman movie with my grand son last summer but before that one it had been like 5 or 6 years. It cost too much to go to the movie. At The Croods, we went to mattinee, $10 for 2 tickets, and $14 dollars for a kids pack, senior popcorn and 1 small drink. Would rather stay home and eat what I already have.

It’s OK, Arlo. You can still be a good person even if you don’t go to the movies. In fact, you can still be a good person even if you ignore popular culture completely. Which, by the way, I recommend. Hanging out in sewers can kill you.

Fatal Attraction. When my wife wants to go to the movie theater I just remind her we have Netflix, a BlueRay player, 46in HD TV, no one talking on a cell phone and no gum on the floor.

“Mud” – 10:40AM Saturday – $6.50 each – late lunch – dragged through mall – missed nap – missed early bird special – ate left overs – fell asleep on recliner in front of TV. Just another day in the life of a real old retired fart.

We go to the movies every two weeks or so – always have. There is a nearby cinema that shows classics and “foreign” films. The “shared experience” and the big screen still work for us – and now we get the Seniors discount!

Come on guys, it’s not always about what is the cheapest way…Do you never go out dinner? Much more expensive than what you could make at home.But sometimes it’s fun…..A bar? For two cocktails at a bar, you can by a pint of whatever it is you’re drinking and get change back……..Why even bother watching a movie, anyway….? Isn’t real life better?…Cheaper too……

DavidHuieGreen: A few years ago, I realized I was born closer to the Civil War than to that current date. I remember regretting D-Day was after school was out and we couldn’t discuss it in geography class.
