Just try to use an old set of encyclopedias (from 1910 or so) as reference material for the Civil War, or an old cook book. The overview on the civil war has changed in this country, and how many cooks today know how to clean possums and squirrels, not to mention the difference between a slow oven and a fast oven. The cake recipe was everything by scratch, of course, they used very little sugar then and also had cuts of meat that you would have to search and special order them today.

I had two sets of encyclopedias… World Book for the kids and Britannica for adult curiosity.
