Cinco de Mayo is a funny holiday. What it represents to Mexicans is commemoration of a rare military victory (against the French at Puebla in 1862). It really is a day when Americans celebrate Mexican food and tequila.
Many gringos mistake it for Mexican independence day, which is 16 de Septiembre—which is a much more zealously celebrated holiday south of the border. But since it comes conveniently at a time when people are ready for frozen margaritas following the long winter, I’ll just say “¡Viva México! La tierra de mi madre y mis abuelos y bisabuelos.”
No one IS Illegal, They are undocumented workers. They pay more taxes than sales tax. Many were brought here as babies. they consider This their home. Every minority had to go thru this you know. The Irish were not welcome. The Germans were not wanted. The Italians were not wanted, The Jewish, the Cuban, the polish, you name it, if it were not White Anglo-Saxon-protestant, AKA as WASP’s then you were not wanted. And THEY Decimated the Native Ameicans. There were 10X more Natives over this continent than there were after we did our stupid “Manifest Destiny”. Even in grade-school I thought that was an egomaniac idea.
If the Republicans weren’t so anti-non-white, they’d be able to attract a fairly large amount of the devout Catholic Hispanics who tend to be more socially conservative. But no one really wants to vote for people who think they’re beneath them (other than conservative women…their very existence baffles me).
IMA: Your lovely Monsanto filed a lawsuit against non-GMO farmers whose crops DOWNWIND of their precious GMOs were contaminated. Monsanto said it was THEIR fault, and they were STEALING, so the crops should be destroyed, and damages paid to Monsanto.
