No guts (aka courage) required. Breast implants are part of the breast removal procedure. Many women have them for reasons of vanity or to please their partners. The ovarian op is also no biggie with Jolie having given birth to children as well as having a brood of non-biological children. As for writing about it, women do it all the time. That Jolie is a celebrity makes her surgical operations more likely to be heard about by others. That’s worth a pat on the back. Accolades of heroism are completely over the top.

I’ve always enjoyed her as an actress and this has shocked me beyond words. Attached to my shock is an awe that she is such a strong human being to do such a radical choice that had to be very hard. Sometimes we do not appreciate the true strength of others until something like this happens. She’s a beautiful woman and she will continue on as a greatly respected actress and human being. It’s also strengthened me as I’m about to undergo a scary biopsy and she is a role model even for us guys.
