I think the Supremes were saying that the data used for the Voting Rights Act was 40 years out of date and to come up w/ “fair” ways of determining significant issues. Yes, it was needed in the 60’s. Now, Voting Rights should apply to ALL states, not just the southern ones.

Ginsburg among others pointed to cases proving the law is still needed, and valid. The “righties”, yes formerly the “dixiecrats” in the Democratic Party prior to the Civil Rights Act, are pleased as punch to think they can keep on discriminating, and coming up with new ways to do it.

This is a disgusting decision. From the New York Times:

The decision will have immediate practical consequences. Texas announced shortly after the decision that a voter identification law that had been blocked would go into effect immediately, and that redistricting maps there would no longer need federal approval. Changes in voting procedures in the places that had been covered by the law, including ones concerning restrictions on early voting, will now be subject only to after-the-fact litigation.

In less than two hours the Texas law went into effect. Looks like the Klan has its first black member.

No, it doesn’t “invalidate Bennett’s claim.” Whatever Thomas’ specious logic for his decision, Jim Crow is back out and back in action.

There are no cases of voter fraud occurring at the polling place which is the only thing voter ID could stop. As for Thomas, he thinks because affirmative action helped save him a seat at a University (he did the work to stay and graduate), he is looked at with disdain. He is looked at with disdain, but as a Black person I’ll tell you it is because he doesn’t want anyone else to follow him.

Tigger descends into the childish realm of clever retorts, such as “liar!”, “says who!”, “you momma” and so on, revealing the depths of his/her intellectual vacuity. The actions of Texas are sufficient to demonstrate the true effect of this awful decision. Jim Crow is back. We can only hope that it is reversed in the legislature. But it will have to wait until we kick out a bunch of R’s in the midterms.
