I don’t think proves she’s the real Moon Maid or not . . . only that they share the same DNA .

Could Ghote have truly SUCEEDED in cloning?

    We’ll see.

If they share DNA, they are likely related, but, not necessarily Mother and Daughter

    Good morning all…

Very interesting! I suspect that MM/Mysta will play a part in saving the farm… then disappear… and return from time-to-time.

Whoa Nellie! I may be part of a small minority who hold this opinion, but I’m now convinced more than ever that Mysta is the original. Curtis and Staton didn’t lead us along for this long just to say at the end, “Fooled ya! Mysta is really Honeymoon’s aunt!”

I still don’t think it’s quite so simple – and – groan – are we to assume that “Lunarian” DNA works the same way as ours?

I’m not that surprised but am glad to finally have this confirmed. I also like the side by side pictures of Honeymoon and Moon Maid that help reinforce the genetic connection between the two. I’m very excited to see how all of this turns out.

I still have problems with the amnesia side plot (why the heck isn’t the farmer taking SPARKLE TO THE AUTHORITIES)….but aside for this bravo new Dick Tracy guys—this story is longer, more haunting, complex and interesting than anything I have seen in a newspaper in years and years. Pretty amazing actually.

Glad to know this, finally. I’m very pleased. And I agree with petersandy, this story has been interesting, complex, and flat out amazing. Bravo to Team Tracy for weaving together such an intricate and entertaining tale. As much as I loved Gould’s work, I don’t remember ever being as captivated by a Tracy story as I am with this one.

One step at a time. So far, the ONLY thing stipulated is that “Moon Maid” and Honeymoon share DNA. Period. That does not prove who “Moon Maid” really is, much less that she is the original [long-dead] Mysta. If she is a clone, she would share DNA. Perhaps even if she were some other female relative from the moon she might share DNA.We await the dropping of the other shoe. More refined and specific results are necessary before we decide who “Moon Maid” really is.

My heart skipped a beat with today’s strip. The idea of Moon Maid possibly being the real deal. Our beloved Moon Babe from the 60’s, and 70’s! I would love to see Honeymoon and her mother reunited, even if Moon Maid is a recurring character.

Is it possible that some/all of the moon people abandoned their home and came to earth?

This limited result seems to suggest that the DNA of the original Moon Maid was not available to make a more positive match (?)

Good writing . . . it serves to further delay a positive identification of the MM identity - and interested readers on the hook.

Suspect this info (ID certainty) will be kept obscure for most of this year, with further teasing events or clues later popping out - to keep the flame of interest BURNING !..

Things you learn on the Internet— the FBI actually has a nuclear DNA division a.k.a. NDNAU… back to 1998 when DNA evidence was 1st legally introduced to active crime investigations. ALSO— the hair sample from Moon Maid would need to contain its individual roots or bulbs for nuclear DNA testing > mtDNA testing (mitochondrial DNA testing used more in general family tree or haplogroup testing).

Gould also loved the soap opera aspects of a daily adventure strip. This storyline definitely has that in spades!

Another possibility, and I don’t believe anyone’s suggested this yet (if I’m wrong about that, someone will correct me), is that all Lunarians share the same DNA.^^I’ve been thinking that since the pic of MM’s bridesmaids, who all looked relatively identical; let’s face it, a small Moon colony, which avoided contact with other civilisations would likely be extremely inbred.

Could she be a relative of the original Moon Maid? Is it possible all Moon folks share the same DNA? Anything is possible in the cartoon world.

Oh, strip, you tease. The thlot, she does picken.

I notice the anti-Mysta-is-real folks are back-pedaling furiously. I’d just like to point out that 1. a clone with all of the original Mysta’s memories would still be, to all intents and purposes, the real Mysta (plenty of real people in new clone bodies in cyberpunk) and 2. regardless of how this all turns out, this new turn is obviously intended to incline the reader in the direction of Mysta being real.

vvThats one of the first things I thought when I read today’s strip. Several possibilitir=es have been discussed this morning.1. Mysta is the REAL Moon Maid2. Mysta is a clone .3. Mysta is a brainwashed imposter.….a. Possibly a relative of Moon Maid….b. If not related, all Lunarians share a strand of DNA.vvBut we must wait and read on as the writers keep weaving this web of intrigue. I’d love to see the storyboard they are working from.

Sharing DNA does not mean mother dughter neccesarily. In Iceland the whole native population shares DNA. !000’s of years of isolation and marrying within the community made this so. Also, all on Earth are at least a 50th cousin I’ve read(in most cases closer).

I’m waiting for Mysta to tell Honeymoon something that ONLY she and Honeymoon would know. That would put to rest the clone theory once and for all.

A favorite lullaby, for instance, or a secret nickname. Memories can’t be implanted if they’re not known, and Ghote wouldn’t know them.

It’s been my theory (and I’ve posted this before, but none of you could see it at the time because the GoComics moderator had, until yesterday, set my account on “invisible”) that perhaps Mysta teleported (or was teleported) herself away from the scene a split second before the explosion. But the teleportation could not happen fast enough for Mysta not to be affected by the explosion’s shock waves. That could explain why no one had heard from her all that time__________________________

I have suspected this as well. Moon Governor is not above continually surveillance on his daughter. He’s done it before. Add to this the fact that Lunarians can communicate telepathically, and this theory carries a lot of weight.

I agree. The question remains: Is Lunarian DNA the same as ours? Just as there’s a small, but significant, difference between us and chimps, wouldn’t there be some between “Lunies” and us?

Exhuming Mysta’s grave would seem the next logical step. As anxious as Junior is about Moon Maid’s reappearance, I would think he’d want to do it just to prove in his mind that she’s not the real Mysta.
