Could this be the interior of Snoopy’s doghouse? I don’t recall ever seeing that. The A-frame and the semi-circular dorrway suggest it is, but the window and large size are problematic.
They did have bombers. Sometimes 2 seater biplanes in which a second crewmember literally dropped a bomb from his hand to the target. The pilot could also do it in the one seaters. Still am intrigued how they timed the propeller so the pilot could “shoot through it.” The Sopwith Camel was one of the hardest and least reliable planes to fly, too.
Yes they did have bombers. Italy was the first to develop what became the “heavy” type bomber. The U.S. captured an Italian plane and built an exact copy of it. The Sopwith Camel was made by a Dutch company called Spad. They made planes for anybody who could buy them, so the Brits, the Germans and the U.S. all had the same plane except for the logos. The other way would have been to drop a bomb by hand.
Just to point out, the strip sometimes shows what’s in Snoopy’s imagination, not reality. As in this case. He continued this trend when he started doing shows on tv. The inside of Snoopy’s home is never shown, though, only implied.
Um, guys? Comic strip?History varies widely depending on who’s doing the telling and where they went to school. But Snoopy is still an antidote to a bad day.
I agree with others who say this is simply Snoopy’s imagination, just like when he’s running through the fields of barbed wire or when he appears to be “flying” his doghouse. I’ve always taken most of these scenes to be imaginary.

Did they have bombers back in WWI? I thought they only had small fighters.

Here I am questioning Snoopy’s historical accuracy! A dog flying a doghouse!

@stcrowe – As well as hand-dropped small bombs and grenades from fighters, both sides used dedicated bombers as early as 1916.

This is pretty classic Peanuts. I wonder how much the original artwork would be worth.

Just love Snoopy’s “martyred” expression in the last panel!

Was the first Star Wars film inspired by this? It seems familiar…

A bomber was a plane that could carry a box of hand grenades. I think the larger planes could carry one or two actual bombs.

Or they were careful not to shoot at an angle that would hit the prop. I’ve heard of guys shooting themselves down.

Yes, they had bombers, the German used them to bomb London just like they did in WW II. They also used Zeppelins to bomb England.

Propellors with metal deflector plates were first, flown by French aviator Roland Garros, then Antony Fokker designed an interruptor cam.

Actually the gun and propeller are not truly sychronized. A gear interrupts the gun firing as the prop is swinging by.
