Time to get some new old sand.

Lather up! (In new suntan lotion, that is.) It will be great, provided Petey is allowed to stay home, indoors, in his Fortress of Solitude (a.k.a. bedroom), reading Little Neuro comics.

Take the sand back to the beach. Or use it for crafts.

Go to Gunnison Beach – but you’ll need a little more lotion.

In a real situation, no mom would pour sand all over the table. That’s be a real mess to clean up. She’d walk over and pour it into the garbage. But that wouldn’t make a very dramatic picture. (I’m not criticizing Richard. He had to make it dramatic.)

Unfortunately, Petey is too young to be left alone (“How would it look in the paper?”). I can imagine he’ll have a lot of trauma at the beach. Let’s see – we’ve been through the sun phobia at the swimming pool – at the beach, there are lots of scary things, like the new sand that gets into your suit and torments you, and seaweed and who knows what unmentionable things in the water.

When we went to the beach with a three-year-old who was later diagnosed with Asperger’s, she much preferred sitting on her blanket and gazing at us in the water, to actually getting into the stuff. (We had a designated watcher-of-her.) Once my husband carried her out into the water, and she took one look at the seaweed floating all around, and bellowed, “GET ME OUT OF HERE!”

Why did she dump the sand inside the house?!
